Reiki for Horses
These principles are based on the belief that the Universal Life Energy or "ki" ("Chi" in Traditional Chinese Medicine) flows within the physical body through pathways known as Chakras and Meridians.
Chakras are energy centres through which life force energy is drawn into a physical being. Each Chakra is responsible for certain physical systems, glands, organs, emotions and mental attitudes. Once energy has been absorbed into the body it is then distributed through the body via Meridians much in the same way as blood flows around the circulatory system.. If either the Chakras or Meridians become blocked through either emotional or physical disturbance, the energy flow becomes sluggish or stagnant resulting in emotional and / or physical dis-ease.
During a Reiki session the practitioner acts as a channel focusing the energy "ki" into the recipients body allowing a rebalancing and harmonisation of the Chakras. This will enhance the body's natural ability to heal both physically and mentally, encouraging optimum health, well being and performance.
What happens at an Equine Reiki session
We can undertake a Reiki session wherever your horse is comfortable, fitting in with their normal routine. It is best that it is not close to feed time or when the yard is very busy. To allow them to get the most benefitIt is a good idea to give your horse the day off once they have had their Reiki session, so it would need to fit it into your horse's exercise routine. Reiki on your horse’s day off or the day after a big competition are both ideal times.
When we arrive we will ask you for a brief history of your horse and if you have any particular reason for calling us. Veterinary permission will be needed if you have any concerns over your horse’s health or behaviour or your horse is currently being treated by a vet.
The actual session takes an average of 45 minutes although every animal is different. During this time the practitioner will place their hands over different areas of the body, concentrating on the horse’s energy centres and anywhere we feel the horses wants us to go.
During the session you may notice the horse releasing energy. These signs include licking and chewing, twitching muscles, sighing and pawing the ground. Often you will also notice their eyes soften, their lips droop and it is quite common for them to actually fall asleep!
Following the Reiki session the horse should be allowed some quiet time and it should be ensured they have a plenty of fresh water. They are often very thirsty after Reiki as toxins are expelled from their system.
